Since becoming a full-time artist over 20 years ago, Richard Hearns has lived in many stunning places worldwide, but the Burren in Co Clare captivated both him and his wife Boo and they have created an oasis of calm, creativity and connection

The Burren is a stunning rock-like landscape dotted with a host of trees, including the hazel, blackthorn, hawthorn, ash, holly and willow. But one tree unlikely to be found there is the olive tree, with the exception of one in the garden of artist Richard Hearns and his wife Boo.
This warm and welcoming couple live in a stunning restored farmhouse where the walls are hung with wonderful examples of Richard’s work – works which play with colour and shape and abstraction and fill the rooms, which are deliberately starkly furnished, with warmth, light and drama. It’s a body of work with which Richard has been building an international name for himself – his works hang in the Sorbonne in Abu Dhabi, his next exhibition will take place in the prestigious Cadogan Gallery in London in September and the one after that will be in Los Angeles in 2027.
