The KPCA’s Bridge Project is breathing new life into the capital city of KZN and transforming old infrastructure into stunning works of art, one paintbrush at a time!
Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal (26 August 2024) – Art, in all its myriad forms, is the soul of our nation, reflecting our rich diversity and beauty. Despite the challenges we face, art offers a sanctuary of vibrant hues, dynamic shapes, patterns and emotive expressions that almost force us to take a pause and remind us of the extraordinary beauty that surrounds us.
Breathing life and colour in Pietermaritzburg are the talented artists from the Mindful Society through the Keep PMB Clean Action Group’s (KPCA) Bridge Project.
Founded by Khethiwe Kunene, the Mindful Art Society is an NGO which aims to promote and support emerging artists. They are dedicated to promoting holistic living, mental health awareness, and services that facilitate personal growth through artistic expression and holistic practices.
Not only have they partnered with KPCA, but they are turning old infrastructure into works of art by taking KPCA’s Bridge Project to a whole new level and helping citizens cross over into a new vision for PMB.
One stroke of paint at a time, the artists are engaging in various community projects in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas where they are committed to using art to address social challenges.
Their murals are already a marvel to look at, boasting colourful prints and patterns inspired by a combination of African cultures. More than just beautiful murals, their creations are powerful symbols of community, hope, and resilience.
According to KPCA, the Natal Associated generously sponsored the preparation and painting of the actual bridge and railing. Hall’s Retail and the Victory Team sponsored the Paint for the Bridge Murals.
