An Australian art dealer will auction a painting “attributed to Johnny Warangkula Tjupurrula”, a giant of the Western Desert art movement, in spite of calls for the artwork to be withdrawn.
In one corner of the fracas is Adrian Newstead, the prominent Bondi-based art dealer whose Newstead Art Auctions is offering the contentious work as lot 1 in The Terence J. Gilbert Collection sale this week.
