Robert Downey Jr. is full of praise for his longtime friend Johnny Depp’s latest art exhibition. On Wednesday, October 9, Downey shared a video of himself visiting A Bunch of Stuff, an art show by Depp that is currently open at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.
In the video, Downey, 59, expressed his excitement, calling Depp “an artist through and through” and encouraging people to check out the show. “Wow…Don’t miss A Bunch of Stuff now on display in NYC. My brother JD is an artist through and through, no surprise, just delight,” he wrote.
The video showed several pieces of Depp’s artwork, along with music from Depp’s band, Hollywood Vampires. At one point, Downey even blew a kiss to the camera. This support is mutual, as Depp recently praised Downey’s performance in his first Broadway play, McNeal.
Depp’s exhibit includes artwork he’s made since his early 20s, along with personal items from his life. Depp has called art his “sanctuary,” saying the pieces reflect different stages of his life.
The two actors, who starred together in the 2000 film Before Night Falls, have a long-standing friendship. With similar charisma and personalities in the entertainment industry, both Depp and Downey Jr. have supported each other through thick and thin.
Their close bond has made headlines before, including during Depp’s highly publicized defamation trial against Amber Heard. Throughout the trial, Downey was a constant source of support for Depp, even giving him a celebratory call after his victory.
In return, Depp showed the same support when Downey won his first Oscar for Oppenheimer earlier this year. Neither actor had won an Academy Award in their decades-long careers until Downey’s recent win.
