Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara has been a viral sensation since it launched in 2021, and now the brand has expanded its shade range to include eight new hues – and they’re currently on sale
Anyone who wears mascara will more than likely be aware that Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara ranks among the high street’s finest beauty offerings.
A viral phenomenon that won over our entire beauty team with its gravity-defying length, striking volume and featherlight formula, its a beauty buy that has earnt some serious praise from experts, including a former Boots makeup artist – Nina Crighton. from the Liverpool Echo.
Capitalising on its celebrated mascara’s success, the brand has recently expanded its colour range over time to give our eye colour an even bigger boost – and they’ve been a hit. Whilst venturing into coloured mascara might seem intimidating, last year’s burgundy, pink and blue variants created quite a buzz, delivering eye-catching vibrancy that complemented users’ natural iris shades.
For instance, brown-eyed customers favoured the blue option, whilst burgundy brought out the brightness in hazel eyes.
Maybelline has now expanded its palette further, introducing some gorgeously autumnal and festive options. The latest additions are its True Brown shade, alongside Green Altitude, Space Diamond, Plum Twilight and Gold Glitz which launched several months ago.
Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara

Maybelline has introduced new colours to its viral mascara. Some of which are currently on sale on Amazon.
And some of them are currently on sale on Amazon in the brand’s Black Friday sale, with prices starting at £7.
The brand’s colour wheel indicates these tones work particularly well for brown, hazel and blue eyes by making their natural colours stand out, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Discussing True Brown, the brand highlighted how this gentler brown mascara suits hazel eyes, noting: “A brown mascara like Brownish Black can perform [to bring out] your eyes’ darker tones.”
Green Altitude is described by the brand as follows: “With a mix of green and brown, hazel eyes are great for experimenting with colour. Green Altitude is a standout choice. Not only does the green colour help darken and lengthen lashes, but it can work to bring out the natural green already within your eyes.”
Meanwhile, Space Diamond can make brown eyes appear ‘super dynamic’, with the brand explaining: “Glitter mascara like Space Diamond is where it’s at. The sparkles add an extra layer of depth, making brown eyes look super dynamic.”
For blue eyes, Plum Twilight proves ideal as its deep, cool blue undertones belong to the same colour family and help these eyes stand out.
Beyond these fresh shades, the ophthalmologist-tested mascara has earned praise for its smooth application, courtesy of its exclusive Flex Tower brush, which flexes to volumise and coat each individual lash from base to tip. The formula itself features bamboo extract and fibres for ‘long, full lashes that never get weighed down’.
Discussing her experience with the mascara – specifically its original black formula – Nina Crighton said: “This mascara is definitely viral for a reason, but I will say, beware of clump! The mascara brush itself looked thin and precise, making it a good product to grip your lashes and extend.
“With bamboo extract and fibers infused in the washable mascara formula, it aims to create longer, fuller looking lashes that ‘never get weighed down.’ I was pretty impressed with this mascara, but it was very thick.
“Just one stroke from the root to the tip of my eyelash and the volume was incredible. If you’re a fan of putting on a few layers of mascara, beware of clump. Of course, this is natural, but I feel like this may put some people off the product itself.”
As for the burgundy shade, I can confirm it makes my own hazel eyes pop. While the original Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara has been my go-to since its launch in 2021 (I was heavily influenced to buy it after seeing incredible real-life results on the likes of TikTok), so was so intrigued by the reddish new shade.
My lashes aren’t naturally long or curly and they are annoyingly stubborn; finding a mascara that gives them height, drama and curl has always been a challenge. But Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara always does the trick – without making them look or feel caked in product and leaves them long, feathered out and my eyes looking bright.
When applied to my brunette lashes, the reddy-tinge is subtle. Not a difference that stops you in your tracks but still makes an impact. When compared with black mascara, my eyes certainly look softer, warmer and the green flecks were definitely smidge brighter.
Having run out of the burgundy haze now, I have returned to my other favourites in black – Iconic London’s Triple Threat mascara in black, which gives some serious drama to my lashes, and UKLash’s Tubing Mascara, a product loved by Millie Bobby Brown.
Described as a confidence booster, shoppers have been raving about this Maybelline mascara, with one sharing how people are stunned to discover their lashes are genuine. They said: “I had so many compliments, people ask me if they are my real eyelashes. Gives me so much confidence.”
Another devotee of Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara commented: “This mascara is the best product ever! ! I have brown eyes but have all the colours and they all make my eyes pop. The only thing missing is a really dark navy/midnight blue one.”
However, some users felt the coloured mascara shades weren’t as vibrant as expected – particularly the green and burgundy varieties, with one reviewer noting: “The mascara is amazing however it’s just the colour that isn’t too prominent. I have the green and burgundy and they do both look like a pure black the green especially! The burgundy has the slightest colour.”
