The exhibition will showcase work by 64 emerging artists and architects selected from the 2025 Scottish degree shows.
Michael Visocchi RSA, exhibition convenor, said: “The Royal Scottish Academy’s 2026 New Contemporaries exhibition presents an extraordinary breadth of work, capturing a new generation of artists and architects as they begin their professional journeys.
“In an increasingly complex and visually oversaturated world, finding a unique perspective is a significant challenge.
“Yet, these practitioners have captured an essence here that makes the complex feel elementary. [Which is] No mean feat.”
Featuring painting, sculpture, film, photography, installation, printmaking, performance, and architecture, the exhibition explores contemporary themes such as identity, gender, politics, and social change.
More than £25,000 in prizes will be awarded during the exhibition, including the £15,000 Glenfiddich Artist in Residence Prize.
Mr Visocchi said: “Since 1826, The Royal Scottish Academy’s mission has always been to support the study of fine art and architecture. ”
He added: “It is a distinct honor to serve as the Convener, bringing this fantastic collection of works together as we celebrate our landmark bicentenary year.”
Many past exhibitors have gone on to national and international success, including Ade Adesina RSA (2013), Angel Cohn Castle (2018), who will represent Scotland at the 2026 Venice Biennale, and Rachel Maclean RSA (Elect) (2010).
This year’s cohort was selected by Mr Visocchi and fellow academicians, with input from Scotland’s five main art colleges.
The exhibition is part of the Royal Scottish Academy’s RSA200 programme, marking 200 years of supporting art and architecture in Scotland.
