Titled Red Bridge Near Aspatria, the artwork, sold for £7,200 at Mitchell’s saleroom in Cockermouth.
The sale took place during a three-day antiques and fine art sale last week, making it the highest-selling lot of the entire event.
The oil on board painting, measuring 21cm by 26cm and presented in a gilt frame, surpassed all other items in the sale.
Alongside the Kelly piece, other notable artworks included a watercolour by Edward H Thompson, which fetched £1,100.
Mitchell’s is currently inviting further entries of paintings by E.H. Thompson for its December sale.
Which will coincide with the launch of a new biography by Charles Nugent, focusing on the prolific Lake District artist.
Jewellery, silverware, and gold sovereigns also featured prominently among the top-selling lots.
A 9ct yellow gold Cuban bracelet set with 3.62 carats of natural diamonds sold for £4,600, while a pair of 18ct white gold stud earrings with 4.02 carats of natural diamonds reached £4,500.
An Elizabeth II 2020 sovereign five-coin set in its original presentation box also sold for £4,500.
A George III silver cutlery set, comprising 58 pieces, achieved £2,900.
One of the sale’s biggest surprises was a rare Wedgwood ‘Agricultural Devices’ pattern part tea service, originally estimated at £350 but ultimately selling for £1,800.
A vintage Mont Blanc Hemingway fountain pen fetched £700, and a 19th-century monocular microscope by H Crouch of London sold for £240.
A large Chinese hardstone horse figure, standing 56cm tall, sold for £160.
