WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Waco native, Cade Kegerreis, displays over 25 murals in the Waco area, leaving a mark on the community.

Kegerreis is a traveling muralist. He owns a studio in Waco called DVLVD. Most recently, he was hired to paint a mural at Aggie Park.

Growing up in Waco, Kegerreis’ art teachers inspired him to take up art as a hobby. Toward the end of high school, he began to consider the possibility of art as a career. Since he graduated from Baylor University in 2017 he has been a full-time artist.

Kegerreis said he wants to leave the same mark on Waco’s youth that was left on him as a kid.

“So many kids now that grow up without art in school and I think that eliminates the possibility of them doing it for themselves,” Kegerreis said. “For me, that’s the reason I wanna push what I’m doing right now.”

Kegerreis said he loves the interactions with kids aspiring to become artists the most.

“They ask the beautiful questions,” Kegerreis said. “The naive questions. They still are able to see themselves as potentially doing something like this in their future.”

Kegerreis said he thinks public art is essential to the community.

“When you have public art it just brings a feeling of belonging no matter what the art is,” Kegerreis said.

That is why he commended Waco’s dedication to the art scene.

“I think Central Texas especially has just caught on to realizing that public art is a great thing for the business, for the viewers, for everyone involved,” Kegerreis said. “I’m glad there’s a really good art community building in Waco.”

While Kengerreis has created murals across the country, he hopes to create them anywhere, seeing the world in the process.
