Saltdean-based artist Laura Callaghan is set to present Ebb & Flow: Wild Waters, a solo exhibition exploring the rhythms of the tide and season.
The event will showcase the beauty and resilience of the everchanging sea using a mixture of different artwork techniques.
She says this work will “honour the changing rhythms that hold us all” and the parts of nature “that exist just out of sight”.
The exhibition is rooted in eco-feminist values and will immerse visitors into paintings and cyanotypes of seaweed, coastal ecologies and seasonal movement.
Celebrating the natural processes, the art captures stories of renewal and resilience along the coastline.
Through a series of mixed media works, paintings and cyanotypes, Ebb & Flow: Wild Waters invites visitors to consider the often overlooked lifeforms and natural processes that shape the coastline. (Image: Laura Callaghan)
Running from Wednesday, February 4 to Sunday, March 1 at The Grange Art Gallery, the exhibition is more than just a display for paintings.
It invites visitors to see the hidden world under the sea, reflecting on the ecological transformation that defines our coastlines.
A series of talks and activities are also paired with the visual art pieces covering coastal stewardship, marine ecology and the human-nature relationship.
Admission is free from Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm.
On February 15 a family-friendly seaweed talk will be happening from 2pm, by Seaweed Guy.
The next event falls on February 22 from 2pm, featuring members of FORCE, discussing sea health and protective actions.
