BOOK The Greatest Story Ever Told

I couldn’t put this book by Bear Grylls down. I went to the New Horizon event last summer in Coleraine and heard Bear talk about writing it. It tells the story of Jesus’s time on Earth from various perspectives of the people who knew him. It’s very creative in how he tells the story in the first person, through ordinary people’s eyes. I’ve never got into reading for entertainment, but this is probably the closest thing to a novel that I’ve read and learnt so much from.

STREAMING Stanley Tucci

I think cooking goes hand in hand with being a potter, and making functional items to eat from and use. So I like watching food-related things – like Rick Stein’s shows – when I want to relax. I like how he combines food and travel. And Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy was brilliant. I saw it as a form of research on where I want to travel to and what to eat.

I like local chef Paula McIntyre’s shows, too. She has a great way, very funny. And she uses local potters’ work, so it’s nice to spot mine, and other’s, pots on her shows.

MUSIC Max Richter

As I get older, I’m really enjoying contemporary classical music: Max Richter, Philip Glass, and John Adams’s song Short Ride in a Fast Machine. RTÉ Lyric FM is great to discover new music when I’m driving.

We recently got an extension [at home] and I now have a home for the record player I bought when I was 18. I’ve been enjoying getting my vinyl collection out, everything from Bjork to Jamiroquai to the Gipsy Kings and Milton Nascimento and Lo Borges. We enjoy a family disco now and then.

EXHIBIT Ashes to Fashion

I’m planning a trip to the Ulster Museum with my nine-year-old daughter to see its fashion collection showcase. We’ll both enjoy that. Our family love the Ulster Museum, particularly the natural history and science areas.

The museum is set on the stunning grounds of Belfast Botanic Gardens – the Tropical Ravine ‘rainforest’ experience is fantastic.
