ONE of Ware’s most unusual and talked-about creative events is back this June — and, after huge demand, it’s now running twice a year.

Generation Circus brings its popular Circus Life Drawing to Ware Drill Hall on Sunday 14 June (5–8pm), offering a rare chance to draw live circus performers in action — from a professional aerialist performing high above to colourful, characterful poses by Generation Circus’s inspiring over 50s artists.

Part performance, part art studio and part community gathering, the event has built a reputation for its warm, welcoming atmosphere — where complete beginners draw alongside experienced artists, with music, cake and conversation throughout.

“You don’t have to be ‘good’ at drawing — you just have to turn up and be curious,” says Generation Circus director Emma.

“There’s something magical about it — live circus happening around you, people quietly drawing, music playing, tea and cake. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and full of life.”

Thanks to a community grant from Ware Town Council, tickets are just £8, helping keep the event accessible to as many people as possible — something that sits at the heart of Generation Circus’s work.

Alongside professional performers, the event also features members of the organisation’s much-loved over 50s circus community — a vibrant group aged 50 to 90+ who train weekly and regularly perform.

Local artist and tutor Julie Arnall will be on hand throughout the evening to offer guidance, and all basic materials are provided.

“You’re trying to sketch someone flying above your head — it’s chaotic, brilliant, and completely addictive.”
