Bolton Museum Open Art Exhibition will close on Sunday, March 17, giving visitors one last chance to see the work which highlights pieces from those working, studying or living in Bolton.

Entries from a range of art forms were welcomed including paintings, photography and sculptures.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr David Chadwick, was ‘delighted’ to be in attendance for the opening.

He said: “This fantastic exhibition showcases the wealth of creative talent we have here in Bolton,

“It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout, with hundreds attending to celebrate local art.”

More than 240 pieces were submitted by local artists, with the grand prize of £1,000 being presented by the mayor to Richard Wood for his landscape artwork called ‘Ghost Chimneys’.

Another winner was University of Greater Manchester student Olivia Edge, who received the Young Artist Award for her acrylic painting named ‘Rewilding’.

Cllr Chadwick said: “Her work is a brilliant example of the bright creative future ahead.

“This fantastic exhibition showcases the wealth of creative talent we have here in Bolton, with over 230 artworks submitted by artists who live, work or study in our town. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout, with hundreds attending to celebrate local art.

Nadeem Ayub, Executive Cabinet Member for Culture at Bolton Council said: “The response to this year’s Open Art exhibition has been outstanding,

“It’s wonderful to see so many people seizing the chance to showcase their skills in such a respected setting.

“I’m sure visitors will be captivated by the imagination, originality, and sheer talent on show in our fantastic town that has great connections to the creative arts scene.”

This event will be open until Sunday 17 May.
