BOSSIER CITY, La. (Arklatex Today) – Artist, Irene Gallion aims to spread positivity and brightness even during hard times and dark days.
On June 14, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Natchitoches artist Irene Gallion’s opening reception, and first solo show at the newly renamed Virginia Cook Gallery, will be held at the Bossier Arts Council, 630 Barksdale Boulevard.
The exhibition, titled “Dear Diary, All of the Seeds Need Watering, Sincerely Irene Gallion” is an expressive, bright, and emotional exhibition that pulls from nostalgic memories of childhood and a desire to spread positivity during the darkest days.
Heavy amounts of soul are captured in the eyes of the people and children in Gallion’s paintings. The colors are solid and bright, standing out with a pop on a gallery wall. Many of her works feel like fusions of paintings and doodles, reminding us of days as children writing or doodling on notebook paper and enjoying little wonders of life such as pretty bugs, flowers, and birds.
Irene Gallion
Gallion is a visual artist who grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and now lives in Shreveport. She has been creating since she was in fourth grade, and as a child she would watch her father paint beautiful signs for local businesses around Natchitoches, In high school she began to hand paint clothes for anyone who would allow her to.
Her visual art career began in 2016 when she moved to Forth Worth and began to participate in several art shows in Dallas. Her experience helped her discover her voice in the world. She creates because it gives her the freedom to say whatever she wants without actually having to open her mouth.
The main mediums she works with are acrylic and spray paint, often using bright colors when creating emotional pieces with a lot of focus on children and flowers.
“She wants people to know that even in the darkest of days, there is always something to smile about,” says the statement from Bossier Arts Council.
