Catriona Reid unveiled her new collection, inspired by Inverclyde‘s coastal landscape, at McGilp’s popup shop in Gourock.

The art teacher said the week-long exhibition and sale went well.

Catriona, 49, said: “I had quite a lot of visitors. It’s a nice thing to do, especially at this time of year.

“I had lots of chats with folk, and on the Friday, there was the Christmas light switch on which was lovely.

“I usually do the pop-up shop twice a year and at the moment, it’s involved a new body of work.

“I usually specialise in Scottish landscapes with Scots Pine trees. It’s very black and white, there’s much more colour.”

But Catriona says her art has evolved to reflect the personal changes in her life.

She said: “My new work is very colourful, blues and greens, with shocking pink.

“It’s calmer, more in control – it’s been a big year of change.”

Catriona juggles teaching prisoners at HMP Greenock with pursuing her own work and has a home studio at her Gourock home.

She says the theme of her new work is underwater and swimmers.

Catriona said: “There is an underwater theme, probably influenced by the Clyde and there are paintings with swimmers inspired by Gourock Pool.”

She said she had a renewed passion for her art, perhaps motivated by a milestone birthday on the horizon.

Catriona said: “I’ve submitted work to exhibit my work at the Wyllieum.

“I’m really motivated to get out there as much as possible next year and submit work to the Scottish Landscape Awards.”

Catriona also organised an display of prisoners artwork at the Beacon Art Centre last November and hopes to do this again.

If you missed Catriona’s exhibition at McGilp’s there is also a chance to view and buy her work at Original Artists on Kempock Street.
