Sara Dismukes, Art & Design Professor, and Chris Stagl, Associate Professor of Design, will have their work featured in the annual Montgomery Photo Festival in July.
Now in its sixth year, the Montgomery Photo Festival—formerly called the Society of Arts & Crafts/Stonehenge Gallery Photo Competition—is presented by the Society of Arts & Crafts, a non-profit organization committed to the advancement of art education and art appreciation.
Dismukes’ piece, titled “liminal,” features an abandoned billboard that society has left behind on Highway 231 just north of Troy. Stagl’s piece, titled “Teruel in 50,” highlights the necessities of ingenuity when your space may be limited.
“The cyanotype process is intriguing to me because it enables a completely new way to use drawing and painting techniques,” Dismukes said. “I’m excited to have this work included in the Montgomery Photo Festival.”
Stagl added, “I think it’s very important to partake in the local, regional and national art community, and I’m honored to have been juried into this show.”
The exhibit will be on display for in-person visits from July 10 through July 31. Business hours for the exhibit will be 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CDT, Monday through Friday. An online gallery will feature all the images in the exhibit and the award winners.
The reception will be held Saturday, July 13 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Stonehenge Gallery, located at 401 Cloverdale Road in Montgomery.
Tom Rankin, a documentary photographer, filmmaker, writer, editor, folklorist and a professor of the Practice of Art and Documentary Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke University, will give an in-person juror’s talk on Sunday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. CDT, at the Georgine Clark Alabama Artists Gallery, RSA Tower, 201 Monroe Street, Montgomery.
