Delaware’s Division of the Arts aims to provide a new outlet for First State veterans navigating the next chapter of their post-service life: art.
The state’s CreatiVeterans Program is an eight-week-long course that allows veterans up and down the First State to explore a wide range of artistic mediums and techniques, including painting, drawing, clay and even gelli plate printing, according to Division Community Engagement Program Officer Briana Henry.
This program not only allows participants opportunities to express themselves but also connect with fellow veterans and unlock the power of imagination and artistry.
The Arts Division is looking for teaching artists to come and instruct classes under the CreatiVeterans program. Anyone who is interested in working with veterans across the First State are encouraged to come aboard. Artists also will receive training from the division. Residents are encouraged to help spread the word about the program.
The division is also looking for places interested in hosting classes at their respective sites, such as VFW or American Legion locations, libraries or arts organizations. Those interested in becoming a host site can reach out to Henry.
Additional information regarding the program can be found online at arts.delaware.gov/creativeterans/.

The Rehoboth Art League in Rehoboth Beach encourages community members to embrace and appreciate the enduring value and power of art.
The nonprofit is looking for year-round volunteers interested in helping keep the organization’s mission alive and well. Volunteer opportunities include working alongside teachers during children’s art classes, supporting gallery openings and fundraising events and garden and grounds maintenance, to name a few.
Additional areas of need include administrative support such as filing and mailings; working on projects like painting or carpentry; and meeting and greeting visitors at the Homestead, the latter of which is open from May to October at select dates and times.
Those interested can fill out a volunteer form and email to Events and Outreach Manager Kelly Wells at kelly@rehobothartleague.org. Residents also can reach out to league offices for additional information.
Volunteers also are needed to help run two of the league’s upcoming summer events: their Cottage Tour and their signature Outdoor Art Show.
The cottage tour is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 7 and July 8. The outdoor show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 2 and Aug. 9.
League members also accept monetary donations online or via personal checks sent by mail.
Additional information about volunteer opportunities, donations and events can be found on the league’s website at rehobothartleague.org/.
