Yesterday saw the opening of this year’s Spring Visual Arts Competition.

A total of 90 entries by 50 artists were submitted.

Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS), on behalf of the Ministry of Culture is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Spring Visual Arts Competition. A total of 90 entries by 50 artists were submitted.  

International artist, Javier Plata carried out the judging in the painting, sculpture, photographic and video categories. The Minister for Culture, The Hon Christian Santos GMD MP presented the awards at a prize giving ceremony held at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery on Thursday 14th May 2026. 

The Prize winners are:  

The Ministry of Culture Award for Overall Winner (£3000)  

• Hannah Cavilla Latin – ‘005’ 

Painting, Drawing, Prints & Digital Painting Award (£750)  

• Valerie Cisarego Gaduzo – ‘The Warmth Within Winter’  

Sculpture Award (£750) 

• Tyrone Anthony Vera – ‘Echos Of Silence’  

Photography Award (£750) 

• Joanne Bossano – ‘Time Capsule’  

Video Award (£750) 

• Hannah Cavilla Latin – ‘How To Sit In A Gallery Space: A Short Guide’

The Kishin Alwani Foundation Award for Best Gibraltar Theme (£1000)  

• Karl James Ullger – ‘El Tendedero’ 

The Gibraltar Cultural Services Award for the Best Young Artist (£1000)  

• Jack Hernandez – ‘The Swimming Pool’ 

The following received ‘Highly Commended’ Certificates:  

• Michele Stagnetto – ‘Landscape I’ 

• Tiana Langdon – ‘Pale Blue Shirt’  

• Jane Langdon – ‘Pink Cloud Blue Pine’  

• Stephen Hermida – ‘Lopit Hunters’

• Alex Menez – ‘Fieldnotes On The Afterlife’  

The exhibition is open to the public from Friday 15th May to Friday 29th May 2026, weekdays from 10.30am to 6.30pm and Saturdays from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
