Sean Lee started painting only a year ago as an escape between 12-hour shifts as a doctor at Sydney public hospitals, yet he has beaten hundreds of entries to a $20,000 art prize.
Lee’s My Pantry Essentials – a nod to his Chinese-Malay heritage, featuring bottles of soy sauce and chilli oil – has won the inaugural Eckersley’s Art & Craft Prize, announced on Friday night by the art supplies chain to mark its 60th anniversary.
