COUNTY News:

For the third year in a row, the Los Alamos Public Library will participate in the MainStreet and Creative District sponsored, community-wide celebration of a Month of Art & Culture. This year, the Library celebrates with an “Intro to Life Drawing” program, 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 and a “Life Drawing and Jazz” lounge after hours, 5-7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 5. Both events will take place at Mesa Public Library.

In what has become an annual marquee event, the Mesa Public Library opens the doors after hours, 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 for a jazz-themed life drawing event with live music. For this event, the lower rotunda is transformed into a music lounge where participants can draw live models dressed in music-inspired costumes. The models will hold various poses for very short to longer periods of time to allow participants to create both simple sketches and more detailed drawings.

For the second year in a row, the music at this event will be performed live by young musicians from the Quemazon combo, one of the local youth ensembles from the Jazz Project. Audiences of all ages may come for the music, the art or both!

As a new addition to the program line-up this year, the Library will host an “Intro to Life Drawing” from 5:30-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1. This program is offered for participants who wish to learn some basic life drawing techniques or brush up on skills prior to the Saturday event. Facilitator Ken Nebel will lead participants in discovery of what it is like to draw with a live model as inspiration. Participants will explore a variety of drawing materials and draw the human form through a series of quick exercises. Nebel will talk about translating movement, weight and feeling in drawings.

Both events are cohosted by the Los Alamos Life Drawing Group. The Library is providing art supplies for both events. Participants may bring their own preferred but mess free supplies.

Models for both events will be clothed. All Library programs are free and open to the public. No registration is needed. For more information, visit LosAlamosLibrary.org or call the library at 505.662.8250.
