Fola David, a Nigerian artist and medical doctor, is aiming to break the Guinness record for the largest drawing by an individual. Per Reuters, David embarked on the project at a stadium in the West African nation’s city of Lagos. It took him six days to complete the 1,050-square-metre drawing.

David’s huge “Unity in Diversity” artwork depicts two hands holding the map of Nigeria. He said his project was intended to highlight the West African nation’s cultural heritage.

“Our diversity should be seen as something that unites us, as something that strengthens us, rather than something that should create that divide between us,” David said after wrapping up his project on Sunday night.

Indian artist Ravi Soni holds the current record for the largest drawing by an individual. He broke that record in 2021 with an artwork covering 629.98 square meters. Guinness World Record has been notified about David’s record-breaking attempt, and the organization has to confirm whether he has achieved that feat.

Many Nigerians have broken various Guinness World Records in recent times. One such individual is Oside Oluwole, a biochemist and car dealer who shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest videogame marathon. Per the organization, Oluwole, who is also known as “Khoded”, played a soccer videogame continuously for over three days. The 24-year-old clocked in 75 hours in the process.

The previous record holder was David Whitefoot – an Englishman who went on a gaming marathon for 50 hours in 2022. Oluwole hails from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, and he embarked on the marathon to raise funds to support a local hospital in his hometown.

Oluwole broke the record while playing the Dream League Soccer 2023 mobile game. Past record holders, however, opted to play FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer. Oluwole is said to have played the game on his iPhone, and he cast his smartphone on a television screen. By the time Oluwole ended his marathon, he had played more than 500 matches, per the organization.
