Taylor Swift’s dominance over the music industry shows no signs of slowing down. IFPI’s latest rankings prove yet again that she is in a league of her own. On February 18, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), recognised as the global voice of the recording industry, officially declared Swift as the Global Recording Artist of the Year 2024. The achievement comes as no surprise, given the phenomenal success of her record-breaking Eras Tour and the massive anticipation surrounding her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Her influence over the charts and her ever-growing fanbase has made this another landmark year in her career.

Although she may have missed out on a Grammy this year, Swift’s latest recognition from IFPI marks an impressive milestone. This is her fifth time winning the Global Recording Artist of the Year title and her third consecutive victory. In the 12-year history of this award, no other artist has claimed the top spot as many times.

Her previous wins include 2014, 2019, 2022 and 2023, making her status as the most celebrated artist in IFPI’s history. With this latest triumph, she continues to set records that will be hard to beat.

K-Pop’s Unstoppable Rise on the Global Album Sales Chart 2024

While Taylor Swift may have ruled the overall charts, K-pop completely took over the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart 2024. An overwhelming 9 out of the Top 10 albums came from South Korean artists, proving the genre’s worldwide appeal. Groups like ENHYPEN, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, IVE and more dominated the rankings, showing just how powerful the K-pop wave has become.

The trend continued even beyond the Top 10, as K-pop artists filled most of the Top 20 spots as well. Only three non-K-pop artists managed to secure positions in the Top 20, namely, Taylor Swift, Chinese singer Zhou Shen and J-pop band Snow Man.

Several K-pop acts did more than just make the list—they dominated it with multiple entries. SEVENTEEN secured two spots for their albums SPILL THE FEELS and 17 IS RIGHT HERE. Stray Kids did the same with ATE and HOP. NCT DREAM scored double entries with DREAM()SCAPE and DREAMSCAPE. Aespa landed on the list with Armageddon and Whiplash.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER also claimed two spots for minisode 3: TOMORROW and The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY.

K-pop’s influence was not limited to just album sales, it also extended into other IFPI charts. On the Global Artist Chart 2024, SEVENTEEN took an impressive #3 spot, while Stray Kids and ENHYPEN ranked #5 and #14, respectively. Meanwhile, in the Top 20 IFPI Global Album Chart 2024, several K-pop albums made waves including ENHYPEN’s ROMANCE: UNTOLD, SEVENTEEN’s SPILL THE FEELS and 17 IS RIGHT HERE, and Stray Kids’ ATE.
