A CELEBRITY makeup artist behind this year’s Sports Illustrated shoot has revealed the self-tanner she used on the stars.
Jodie Boland is responsible for making Kate Upton and Hunter McGrady look even more gorgeous for their new covers.
On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated unveiled its 2024 cover models including Chrissy Teigen and Gayle King.
Some of the models — including Chanel Iman and Brooks Nader — were done up for the camera with Boland’s (@jodieboland) makeup expertise.
In a series of Instagram stories on Tuesday and Wednesday, she revealed the beauty brands she used on the models for their recently released covers.
The MUA dedicated thank yous to the brands and models such as Christen Harper, Livy Dunne, Kamie Crawford, Brittany Lynne, Sixtine Rouyre, Penny Lane, Lauren Chan, Hunter McGrady, and Kate Upton.
Boland’s list of go-to products includes picks from French Farmacie, Supergoop, Retrouvé, Lilfox, Hourglass Cosmetics, Jones Road, and West Barn Co.
To achieve a sun-kissed bronzed look on her models, Boland shared that she used Loving Tan.
The professional strength self-tanner promises a quick, streak-less look with its Deluxe Bronzing Mousse.
After applying the mousse all over your body, give it just 60 seconds to deposit color before dressing.

Avoid activities that cause perspiration for six hours and then wash off in the shower for a natural tan.
The Purest Tanning Mousse is a great alternative for those seeking a conscious, certified organic option.
People looking for a self-tanner suitable for darker complexions can turn to Loving Tan’s Platinum Ultimate Self-Tanning Mousse, their darkest shade, for maximum results.
One of the brand’s other products, 2 HR Express Self-Tanning Mousse, works in minimal time.
The mousse can be rinsed off after just two hours post-application for a bronzed glow.
Model and Sports Illustrated icon Kate Upton takes center stage as part of the magazine’s 2024 swimsuit issue.
Upton’s appearances have been a cornerstone of the brand for over a decade, since her first appearance in 2011, which earned her Rookie of the Year award.
Though she didn’t earn a cover spot until 2012, her feature sparked a change in the direction of the brand.
Editor-in-chief MJ Day said Upton’s cover became “a catalyst for the evolution of the brand.”
Reflecting on her first cover with Sports Illustrated, Upton recalled the shift in the conversation on the body positivity movement.
“After my first cover with [SI Swimsuit] in 2012, it really started this conversation about body positivity and inclusivity,” Upton said.
“When I look back at my first cover, I see how young I was, and I also can’t help but be taken back to that massive moment [when] that cover launched and that conversation of my body and what my body was.”
Upton is joined by Hunter McGrady, Chrissy Teigen, and first-timer Gayle King for Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Swimsuit Issue covers.
Teigen, mother-of-four, rocks a low-cut orange one-piece ten years after her last cover appearance.
“Chrissy Teigen represents the new generation of model moguls,” MJ Day said in a press release.
Hunter McGrady shot this year’s cover just eight months after giving birth and seven years after her debut in the Swimsuit Issue.
Her first Sports Illustrated cover, the mother opened up about the experience in a PEOPLE interview.
“It was such a surreal moment,” McGrady said to PEOPLE.
“I automatically thought back to little me and what that would mean to me, seeing somebody like me on the cover of any magazine, let alone Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. It’s huge.”
“I was just about eight and a half months postpartum when I shot this cover,” McGrady added.
“And I was just like, ‘I want my daughter to see this one day. I want the next generation to see this. I want our generation to see this.’”
Journalist Gayle King, 69, delivered “tasteful cleavage” on her first cover and even admitted to eating a burger right before her shoot.
“The day before, I did have a cheeseburger,” she said to People. “It’s one of my favorite things. I did think that I would reduce my eating, but I didn’t even do that.”
“I said to MJ, ‘God, now I’m going to have to start starving myself,’ and she said, ‘Absolutely do not do that.
“We don’t want you to change anything that you’re doing.’
“I said, ‘Really? I don’t have to starve myself?’ and she said, ‘Please, we want you to do exactly what you’re doing.'”
