Sorokin Gallery is featuring a solo exhibition by Ernest Garthwaite, a prominent artist with long-time roots in Old Greenwich.

Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Garthwaite graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Masters in Painting and Sculpture.  He was recently profiled by News Channel 12, “Made in Connecticut.”

Garthwaite is best known for his landscape paintings that are both realistic and abstract. His use of gold leaf, inspired by fourteenth and fifteenth century Florentine art, helps to capture changing light and movement.

Carole Sorokin, curator of the Gallery described Garthwaite’s paintings as breathtakingly refined and elegant.

Garthwaite has had over 50 one-person exhibits, group shows and his work is in many public and private collections throughout the world.

The opening reception is Thursday, June 27, from 6:00-9:00pm.

Sorokin Gallery is located at 96 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich.

A portion of the sales will be donated to the Greenwich Point Conservancy.
