A luxurious mountain cabin near Sundance, Utah, that belongs to visual artist Sibylle Szaggars Redford, wife of actor Robert Redford, listed Monday for $3.99 million, Mansion Global has learned
The three-story home on Balsam Drive is surrounded by Rocky Mountain pines, crisp mountain air, and dramatic views of Mount Timpanogos. Inside, the home centers around a triple-height living room with a wall of windows facing the untouched landscape, erasing the distinction between indoors and outdoors.
Szaggars Redford purchased the home in the 1980s before she met the Hollywood star at the Sundance Resort just one mile away. The actor owns the resort, which would spawn the Sundance Film Festival.
In 1968, Redford had bought a ski resort called Timp Haven on the slopes of Mount Timpanogos, and later renamed it Sundance after the role he played in the Oscar-winning 1969 film “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,’”a role that remained his favorite even after decades in the business.
In the years since Szaggars Redford purchased the home, it has been a haven, the inspiration for much of her art, and the impetus for her conservation work, according to Jaisa Bishop, a broker with Windermere Real Estate/Luxury Portfolio International, who is marketing the property.

“She used it perpetually throughout the years for inspiration and as a space to refuel,” Bishop said.
The home, situated on 1.43 acres, has four bedrooms, multiple decks offering views in different directions, and a lower-level guest suite with its own kitchenette, living area and private deck overlooking the pines.
Szaggars Redford, who couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, utilized the lower level as an art studio and workspace, but lately has been spending the bulk of her time in Northern California, where the couple has their primary home, per Bishop.
“It fostered her love of nature, you can see that in many of the pieces that are dotted throughout the house,” Bishop said. Some of the works feature the nearby Provo Peak, as well as Mount Timpanogos.
Many more works were inspired by the natural beauty surrounding the home, which is ever present. The interior wood paneling accentuates the home’s relationship with nature, while a cantilevered hallway over the soaring living room and a large stone fireplace within offer spaces to watch the seasons change, from snow-covered slopes, to lush green pines, to a riot of fall color.
“It’s a wonderful spot to create for anybody,” Bishop said.
Szaggars Redford is also the founder and artistic director of The Way of The Rain, a non-profit that explores the themes of climate change through multidisciplinary and performance art. It was inspired by her previous work, which incorporated the monsoon rains of the American Southwest into her paintings, allowing the rain to transform a prepared watercolor painting—a process she recorded and then shared as its own form of art.
She and Redofrd met in the ’90s, but married in 2009, and have been together ever since. Both of them love Utah, but appear to be leaving the state behind. Redford sold the Sundance Resort in 2020, as well as a nearby horse ranch, called Horse Whisper Ranch after the 1998 movie ‘The Horse Whisperer,’ which he directed and starred in, a year later, Forbes reported. It appears that the Redfords still own another ranch in Utah, too, the publication said.
