TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – British artist Jon Burgerman brought a touch of playful whimsy to Taipei this summer, captivating more than 15,000 visitors with his solo exhibition, “Family,” the only one in Asia.
Known for his bold colors and childlike figures, Burgerman has cultivated a global following. His work has been featured in prestigious institutions like the Tate Modern and the Victoria and Albert Museum. However, it was in Taipei that the artist found a particularly enthusiastic audience.
The show concluded its run at Dopeness Art Lab on Sunday (Aug. 11), drawing more than 15,000 visitors in one month.
“Family” offered a fresh perspective on the concept of family, moving beyond traditional blood ties to encompass a wider circle of loved ones. Burgerman’s signature style, characterized by vibrant hues and playful characters, resonated with viewers of all ages.
The exhibition was a social media sensation, with countless photos and videos shared online. The gallery reported long lines, especially on weekends, as visitors flocked to see Burgerman’s works.
While in Taipei, Burgerman immersed himself in the city’s vibrant culture. He sampled local cuisine, including vegetarian dishes and the iconic bubble tea. Though he politely declined the city’s famous stinky tofu, he embraced the warm hospitality of the Taiwanese people.
As the exhibition comes to a close, the impact of Burgerman’s work on the Taipei art scene is undeniable. “Family” has not only entertained but inspired viewers to reconsider their own definitions of family and connection.
