A makeup artist has shared a few simple tweaks to your beauty routine that can help you look younger in just 10 minutes – and it doesn’t involve spending a fortune on expensive products
Achieving a more youthful look doesn’t happen overnight, but beauty experts have shared clever tricks for using makeup to create the illusion of younger-looking skin. It doesn’t require splashing out on costly products, either; instead, it involves making a few straightforward adjustments to your current beauty routine to achieve “magical” results.
The initial advice from Cult Beauty is to purchase “sunshine shades”, or yellow-toned products. The specialists explained: “Mature skin tends to look washed out or lacklustre, so switch from pinky-toned complexion products (which can exaggerate high colour) to something with a hint of lemon yellow.”
This surprising hue adds warmth to even the most lacklustre complexions and will have people desperate to “know the secret” behind your newly radiant glow.
Anyone seeking a fresh product with warm undertones has plenty of high street options available – simply search for the code “w” within the shade selection and steer clear of anything marked “C” (cool) or “N” (neutral) undertones, reports the Express.
Cult Beauty specialists recommended Jouer Cosmetics Luminizing Moisture Tint (£33) for its “youth-enhancing dewiness” in multiple shades.
Alternatively, consider Stila’s Correct & Perfect All-in-One Correcting Palette (£33), sold at Marks and Spencer, which features a yellow cream and setting powder designed to balance patchy skin tone.
The makeup professionals also recommended that women wanting a youthful appearance should ditch powder products in favour of cream-based alternatives.
They said: “Few things add years like a chalky, powdery skin-finish. Not only does powder have a tendency to migrate and settle into creases, but it also absorbs light, highlighting any dry patches.
“Cream, liquid or creme textures are infinitely more forgiving flexible and dewy, they look fresh and infinitely more youthful – as well as being more long-wearing.”
Beauty experts insist that a cream-based concealer is essential for every makeup collection.
They noted: “Thinner skin and sluggish drainage mean that bags and shadows are a side-effect of growing older, but the right camouflage can work wonders.
“Disguise dark circles with a peachy-toned under-eye cream ‘melting’ with your fingertips to create a diffused, soft focus look.”
To improve the appearance of drooping, poorly defined skin, Cult Beauty specialists recommend applying a contouring cream two or three shades deeper than your natural tone to “stimulate a shadow” and reshape your cheekbones.
This technique should be used on any “hollows”, including under the cheeks and temples, plus along the jawline for a “believable ‘3D’ effect”.
The specialists claim Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sculpting Duo (£22.50) “does the job, featuring a grey-toned ‘lowlight’ and shimmering ‘highlight’ to enhance the features without looking too harsh”. Finally, the makeup experts at Cult Beauty recommend using a damp sponge when applying products to mature women.
“Tidelines are always a no-go, but never more so than when you’re old enough to know better,” they cautioned.
A moistened Beauty Blender will eliminate any harsh edges and deliver a seamless, “airbrushed” result.
For women whose skin is particularly dull, the specialists recommended completing the look by adding a few drops of facial oil to a damp sponge, and ‘bouncing’ it across your face “for a youthful glow”.
