Margaret Riordan, a self-taught painter whose work has been sold internationally, is having a small exhibition in Lympsham Post Office to display her original pieces.

Visitors are welcome to visit the exhibition throughout July. It will be open from July 1 to 31, from 8.30 to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, except for Wednesday afternoons, and 10.00am to 1.00pm Saturday and Sunday.

Margaret said that she does most of her marketing online, but has decided to have an exhibition in Lympsham Post Office and Shop to further promote her work.

Examples of her pieces on display include everything from portraiture to rural landscapes.

Her exhibition offers original artwork starting at £20, with delicious food available to buy, free parking, and free Wifi.

Margaret works with “all mediums” and her work includes detailed pencil sketches and watercolour paintings.

The artist finds inspiration from any stimulus but especially enjoys capturing the “human form”, whether someone is simply sitting at a railway station or performing a dance. For example, she has recently produced a portrait of the popular actor, Cillian Murphy, to appeal to fans of his.

Another prompt for inspiration for Margaret’s artwork is her surroundings.

She said: “I’ve got lots of local scenes drawn from the village, but I’ve also got some pictures from Spain with horse riders and tango.”

Margaret, who juggles her art with her role as a secretary, has had international success, selling to countries all over the world such as America, Australia and even Monaco.

When asked about the aim of her exhibition, she said: “I just want as many people to pop their head in the door, and discover our lovely little village shop and post office to give them some publicity as well.”
