Mario Sulis , 52 year old doctor from Cagliari, living in Quartu. Doctor but also artist capable of giving shape to the waste that he himself collects . He approached the contemporary art of recycling in the 1980s, with scraps of marble, glass, plastic and iron, kitchen dishes, coming from urban and industrial as well as environmental waste which then culminated in unlikely assemblies. His atelier is located inside the Molentargius Park.
«When I see an abandoned object – he says – I immediately become its champion and like Don Quixote I look for a sort of artistic dignity for this object, and for everything that current society with its innumerable “packaging” fills streets and fields. My motto is “Not what but how”».
Thus Mario Sulis presents himself again in another contemporary art exhibition always on the theme of “Upcycling” with 24 works at the Hotel Palazzo Doglio in Cagliari, where plastic, clay pigeon targets, old CDs and DVDs take on dignity artistic , and not least with “Women on the run” where the ashes of combustion and of times gone by impose austere meanings on the one hand and a profound reflection on current society on the other. The appointment is from May 3rd to June 30th.
