Alex Deveney took over Medinelli’s pop-up shop in Gourock for the first time earlier this month.

The former joiner has exhibited in McGilp’s pop-up in Gourock before and was keen to try out the bigger space.

Alex has crafted beautiful drawings of famous faces include Bjork, David Bowie, and Tom Waits, and also creates amazing landscapes, and detailed charcoal drawings.

He gathered more than 60 beautiful creations and presented them in the shop for a week, and people from all over Inverclyde popped along to see them.

He said he was encouraged by his artist friends, who have also exhibited in the space, to try it out.

Alex added: “I always thought Medinelli’s would be a bit too big but I realised I had enough pieces so I booked it.

“It was great to be able to collect all of my work in the one space.

“I loved the experience and I would be great to be able to do it again.”

Alex says portraiture is his strength but is always determined to try new techniques to continually keep things interesting for himself and for those who admire his work.

He said pop-up shops like Medinelli’s and McGilp’s are fantastic additions to Inverclyde’s creative community.

Alex added: “These spaces are great for helping artists to get their work out there.

“Taking over a pop-up is a real confidence booster; people come in and comment on how much they like what you do.

“There’s a really good creative community in Inverclyde and we all support each other.

“We have two pop-ups in Gourock so there’s always space for people to show what they can do.”
