NEWTON — The North Jersey Arts Collective is sponsoring its second art show on May 18-19 at the VFW hall, 85 Mill St.

Titled “There’s No Leaving Newton : Dream Sequence,” the event will feature works from local artists in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, woodworking and photography.

The show, open from 4 to 8 p.m. with a $5 admission, will feature the work of a dozen New Jersey-based artists, all interpreting the one theme. It’ll also include a “meet-and-greet” appearance by Tim Jacobus, the Budd Lake artist who designed dozens of covers for the popular “Goosebumps” book series.

A second featured artist will be sculptor Ricky Boscarino of Luna Parc.

The show will also include a guided, live-painting wall, as well as a handful of other interactive installations.

“We feel that Newton could greatly benefit from events such as this both culturally and commercially,” said Brendan Carroll, one of the show’s organizers. “This town has an incredible amount of artistic potential, and we aim to begin exploring that potential. Exposure to the arts is paramount in shaping a community on the rise.”
