GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction is issuing a call to all local artists to create a piece of public art for thousands to see.

The city announced Thursday it is seeking an art piece for the roundabout at Horizon Dive and G Round. The city is getting the cross section renovated for traffic and safety reasons.

The deadline is Friday, Oct. 4., while the installation deadline is July 2025. For more information on the proposal, click this link.

The theme for the artwork is outdoor recreation. The city wants the piece to fit right in with the current artworks on the I-70 gateway, especially the Wild Horses of Western Colorado sculptures.

“The city’s commission on arts and culture seeks artwork that embodies creativity, whimsy and innovation while upholding the highest standards of quality, permanence and general appeal,” Parks and Recreation Director Ken Sherbenou said in a press release. “We are very proud of the city’s public art program featured in roundabouts and throughout our downtown which is made possible in large part thanks to the city’s 1% for the arts program.”

Artists interested in the endeavor can apply by submitting a letter of interest, resume, proposal and images of original artwork. To do so, email Haley Van Camp, the city’s arts and culture staff liaison and recreation coordinator, at haley.vancamp@gjcity.com

The commission on art and culture will select the artist.
