A weekly feature showcasing local artists
Name: Dani Darling
Sound: Ethereal, alternative soul, funk and psychedelic rock
History: An Ann Arbor-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, Dani Darling says she is influenced by Erykah Badu, Radiohead, and old Hollywood movie scores. Throughout her relatively short music career, she’s led a four-piece band to regional acclaim, releasing handfuls of EPs. They’ve been spotlighted in The Detroit News, named an “Artist to Watch” by the Detroit Metro Times, nominated for a 2021 Detroit Music Award and sponsored by the Amplify Fellowship.
The latest: In July she released her final EP “Cazimi,” as she’s retiring as bandleader and guitarist due to struggles with multiple sclerosis. She wants her story to bring hope to others, and she plans to tackle the future with just her voice and “the songs in her heart.”
“‘Cazimi’ represents songs that are from my heart,” she said in a press release about the EP. “These last few years have been a struggle, and so the music became more intense, more personal to me and my experience of life these days.”
“Whatever happens next, I am proud that I’ve come this far, and that I’ve been able to capture some of the most meaningful moments of my life and share it with the world,” she said.
This is it for the artist, indefinitely. Hear her music and connect with Dani Darling online at facebook.com/danidarlingmusic.
