Well, we kinda had a feeling from GIMMY’s singles – the post-punk ‘Things Look Different Now’, the psych-garage boogie ‘SWEAT’ and ethereal ballad ‘Fall On Me’ – that she was capable of swaying between genres effortlessly. Today we’re finally able to hear the Northern Rivers artist’s debut full length and experience the true breadth of her talents.
Over the 12 tracks, which we’re assuming were written over the past few years, she’s refused to pigeonhole herself while still producing something that feels cohesive. It’s largely thanks to her signature vocal vibrato and introspective-yet-observational lyricism – it feels like there’s an unflappable optimism in her music.
“The track itself [Things Look Different Now] was the last song to be created on this record, which came so beautifully because it kind of summarised the whole album,” GIMMY says. “The 12 tracks on this album are mainly all about change — internally and physically in a life setting. It’s kind of a nostalgic meaning to me of how quickly life moves along, relationships, age, phase of life, memories.”

The title track is still our favourite song, but album closer ‘Rest, Baby Rest’ is this off-kilter lullaby that sounds like a raw Jeff Buckley b-side, it perfectly bookends the album with its blend of beauty and melancholy. We can only imagine that this will become a favourite at GIMMY live shows.
