Artist Designs More Pokemon in How to Train Your Dragon Art Style

A talented Pokemon fan has recently designed four Dragon-type creatures using the art style of How to Train Your Dragon. Pokemon fans love crossovers, and How to Train Your Dragon provides quite a unique art style to use as an inspiration.

How to Train Your Dragon is an animated movie originally released in 2010. The movie was popular, spawning two sequels, a few short movies, and even a How To Train Your Dragon live-action movie, which is currently in development. Due to the huge popularity of the series, one fan decided to create a collection of Dragon-type Pokemon inspired by the franchise.

Now, the Pokemon fan Dr_Doodle_Phd revealed their latest creations: new versions of Salamence, Applin, Alolan Exeggutor, and Dragapult inspired by How to Train Your Dragon’s art style. While the overall form of each creature does not change drastically in these new art pieces, all of these new designs are greatly stylized and have unique dragon heads. For example, Salamence still has mostly the same body, but its head is different due to a new mouth and horns. Dragapult became somewhat rounder, and Applin was turned into a lizard-like creature carrying an apple. Possibly the most interesting design was the Alolan Exeggutor, who gained dragon wings and heads that no longer resemble coconuts, but full-fledged dragons.

Dragon-Type Pokemon Reimagined in How to Train Your Dragon’s Style

This is not the first time that Dr_Doodle_Phd unveils a collection of stunning Pokemon fan art. The artist started to create Pokemon inspired by How to Train Your Dragon a few weeks ago when they shared fan art of Flygon, Noivern, Garchomp, and Dragonite with fans of Nintendo’s franchise.

Unofficial crossovers between Pokemon and other popular franchises are quite common in fan art. For instance, one fan designed Pokemon inspired by Lilo and Stitch’s style some time ago, sharing unique versions of Latias, Latios, Pichu, Nidoran (male and female), Golduck, and Zorua with the community.

Not all Pokemon fan art featuring the art style of other franchises is based on movies, though. Back in March, another Pokemon fan redesigned Reshiram in Monster Hunter’s art style. The result was an interesting take on the mythic dragon creature, which was quite distinct from the official design, giving the Pokemon a silver body with metallic skin. It’s likely that the Pokemon community will keep drawing the most popular creatures of the franchise in even more different styles, as this seems to be a very popular trend among fans.
