More Art, Insight and Expert Guests…
Painting of the Week, the popular podcast co-hosted by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Phil Grabsky and art enthusiast Laura Bentham, returns this week for its sixth run of episodes.
Produced by Seventh Art Productions, the podcast continues its mission to make world-class art accessible to listeners of all backgrounds. The new season kicks off tomorrow (7 August) and will run through October, with ten weekly episodes featuring a range of artworks from canonical masterpieces to contemporary pieces and even photography.
Among the season highlights are episodes exploring Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, Turner’s Lake, Petworth: Sunset, and Toulouse-Lautrec’s cycling poster La Chaîne Simpson. Also on the schedule are features on Artemisia Gentileschi’s Self Portrait as Saint Catherine, Keith Pettit’s bog oak sculpture Cabriole, and Georges Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières.
Each episode offers both expert and accessible commentary, with Grabsky bringing an art historian’s perspective and Bentham reflecting the experience of an enthusiastic amateur. Special guests this season include art historians, authors, curators and filmmakers such as David Bickerstaff (Caravaggio), Asia Graziano (Artemisia Gentileschi) and Gavin Plumley (Seurat).
Notably, the second episode—airing 14 August—was recorded on site at Petworth House in West Sussex and includes insights from curator Dr. Emily Knight on Turner’s links to the area and the ongoing exhibition Turner’s Vision at Petworth (running through 16 November).
The series finale on 9 October will focus on Caravaggio’s Conversion of Saint Paul, coinciding with the release of Exhibition on Screen’s Caravaggio in cinemas this November.
