NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -Several people stood amazed at the art before their eyes. On Saturday, the Prairie Arts Center held an Art Affair event, honoring artists and their artwork.
Food and drink vendors filled the parking lot, and artist vendors overflowed throughout the building. Visitors could also participate in a silent auction.
The event also featured an amateur painting competition. Artists started with a blank canvas and put their artistic skills to the test. Each artist had to paint a live model within an hour. The participants included the mayor, the sheriff, and other notables in North Platte. The event was a surprise to a few of the contestants.
“The model moving around was a little bit challenging,” said Mayor Brandon Kelliher. “However, I think probably the largest challenge I faced is that I don’t have much artistic talent, so therefore, it was just a matter of trying to figure out. That being said, I appreciate the model coming over to me and showing me how to do this nice little tree right here, which is definitely an homage to Bob Ross.”
Kelliher also shared his gratitude to the Prairie Arts Center.
“Having this event today is great fun,” said Kelliher. “A lot of community volunteers came here, and they all showed their artistic abilities, so let’s call it that. I had a lot of fun today and appreciate the Prairie Arts Center doing this event.”
If you missed Saturday’s action, the canvases will be on display at the Prairie Arts Center for the entirety of the month.
