By the time artist Greg Burns was 18, he had already won multiple awards for his pen-and-ink drawings and paintings. That was an accomplishment made even more impressive by the way Burns was able to create his art.
In 1965, Burns’ mother told a reporter her son had begun drawing when he was young as a form of entertainment. A story on Page 1 of the May 10, 1965, edition of the Oklahoma City Times featured a photo of Burns with a paintbrush in his teeth.
The Bishop McGuinness High School artist was highlighted in the newspaper after he received a national award for a pen-and-ink drawing.
Burns, born with arthrogryposis, which limited the movement of his arms and legs, has been featured in art shows, galleries and in the media throughout his life as he has progressed in his talents and become renowned for his drawings and paintings. He will be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in November.
