More than 500 people attended an art club’s exhibition, which also saw the sale of 31 paintings.
It was another successful exhibition for Newark Art Club, as it held its annual Autumn event in the Buttermarket for the first time.
There was more than 170 of pieces on display, by 25 artists, in a wide range of mediums and styles.
It was the second time the club hosted an exhibition at the Buttermarket, having held its spring display there earlier in the year.
Exhibition organiser John Geeson said: “The Buttermarket is really good, its smack bang in the centre of town.
“I spoke with some of the people who came to the exhibition — we had folks come from up Cumbria way. They were here on holiday and had seen it advertised, so they came in.
“The numbers were certainly down on May, when we had 700 visitors, this time we had 550 — but there was nothing going on in the market place and it’s getting near winter.
“The paintings sold really well.”
Every piece on display was up for sale, and a total of 31 were sold over the course of the exhibition, which ran from Friday, October 11, to Saturday, October 19.
From each sale, 10% will go to Beaumond House. The total raised for the hospice is currently being calculated by the club.
Visitors can also vote for their favourite artwork on display, and the winning artist was Helen Martell.
John added: “Three new members joined us on Wednesday because of the exhibition, we often get people enquiring but to get three new members was great.”
Anyone interested in joining Newark Art Club, which meets every Wednesday at Newark Academy, can find out more via the club website: www.newarkartclub.co.uk.
Next year the club will be celebrating it’s 80th anniversary.
It began in 1945 with as few as five members, and has now grown to have nearly 60.
