MEDINA, Ohio — “Celebrating the Differences” is the theme of the current art display at the Medina Library, 210 S. Broadway St.
The trip to the third-floor B. Smith Gallery is well worth the effort to view the artwork of five local artists.
In this show, the artists point out their different media and styles and share their brief biographies.
In a display of artwork featuring the Medina gazebo, William Beuther, a photographer, has chosen a night photo of the Christmastime gazebo.
The scene shows “soft focus and starbursts around the lights.”

Craig Staufer contributes a winter plein air oil painting of the gazebo created on “a day when wet snow starts falling.”
The large, wet snowflakes are visible in the painting.
George Harth “concentrated on the elaborate, decorative cupola” with his digital artwork rather than painting the entire Medina gazebo.
Colorful fall leaves frame the cupola.
Darrell Kent, whose specialty is pointillism, painted the gazebo in summer. He mentioned that he left out some trees in order to show more of the gazebo.
Ricky Williams, a watercolor specialist, painted the snowy roof and cupola of the gazebo, with bare branches on the trees and snow on a lamppost.
In addition to the gazebo artwork, each artist displays several more of their paintings or photographs, as well as a brief statement about their artistic preference.
Beuther: “I love the challenge of using photography as a medium for artwork. Unlike a painter who begins with a blank sheet, I begin with a complete image.”
Staufer: “The challenge for me as an artist is to find a way to transfer the wonder I feel onto a two-dimensional plane. I choose oil paints to accomplish this.”
Harth: “Since I was in grade school, I painted with only watercolors in a semi-representational fashion, and it has been rewarding.”
Kent: “One day in 1971, I took some markers and began working in a style I read about called pointillism. This style uses dots and dabs of paint to create objects and scenes. I was hooked.”
Williams: ”Taking up watercolor since retirement has kept me busy, from working in the studio to plein air sessions.”
The show will continue until Aug. 23.
