MUNCIE, IN—Local Muncie artisan Carrie Wright of Carrie Wright Silk Gifts & Gallery, will be one of a number of artists who has handcrafted eclipse-themed works at the 12th annual Indiana Artisan Marketplace, which will happen the weekend before the rare solar eclipse.

Wright has created Supernova, by using layers of hot soy wax and highly concentrated dyes which were brushed onto pure silk to create the myriad of colors and depth effects seen in this piece. The silk substrate began as a length of ivory undyed vintage Kimono fabric sourced from a supplier in Japan. Its weave contains a jacquard wave pattern along the length. The painting was steamed for four hours inside a special contraption familiar to silk artists then rinsed to remove all excess dyes and wax. The finished painting was then hand-stitched to black pure cotton fabric for framing. The piece measures 88” x 14” and framed is 103” x 18”.
