An opportunity for an artistic hat-trick has presented itself to renowned landscape artist Harry Brioche, who is returning to Gormleys Dublin after two sell-out solo exhibitions and is hoping for a third.
Brioche, whose work has featured on the cover of the 2022 John Banville novel The Singularities, will have his “Emerald Dreams” series exhibited in Gormleys Dublin from July 6 – 24.
This will be the artist’s third solo exhibition in the gallery, following his sell-out shows ‘Lighting the Landscape’ exhibition in 2022 and “A Change of Seasons” in 2023.
Brioche’s work is characterized by a sophisticated use of light and shadow, creating atmospheric pieces that resonate deeply with viewers.
Brioche has always been captivated by the drama and beauty of the ever-changing sky and landscape of the UK and Ireland, which was in sharp contrast to that of his native Seychelles. This inspiration continues to be ever-present in his painting.
Born in the Seychelles in 1965, Brioche and his family were forced to flee following the coup d’etat of 1977, finally resettling in the UK.
Now based in the Lake District, Brioche draws inspiration from the dramatic landscapes and ever-changing skies of the UK, as well as from his frequent trips to Ireland, where he hikes and paints.
“The landscape is almost incidental; my main objectives are to try and capture the atmosphere and spirit of a place,” said Brioche.
“Ultimately it is the mood and light within the painting which become the central theme.”
“In my third solo exhibition with Gormleys I explore and celebrate the unique spirit of Ireland’s natural environment.
“Each piece is a reflection of this remarkable country: the shifting light, changing seasons, ever-changing weather, and the rich textures of the terrain are painted in a style that seeks to convey not just a visual representation, but an emotional resonance.”
Despite attending Maidstone College of Art, Brioche considers himself a self-taught artist.
Faced with an ultimatum by his college lecturers to conform to institutional styles and methods, Brioche chose to forge his own path.
He went on to carve out a highly successful career as an illustrator and graphic designer with his own company, Tom Dick and Harry, working with world-renowned brands including Dr Martens, Coca Cola and BAE Systems.
Brioche has exhibited internationally for the past 20 years.
His work is regularly exhibited at the renowned Mall Galleries in London through the NEAC, ROI and the RBA annual exhibitions.
