The Casa de la Cultura in Torremolinos will showcase the exhibition “Donde tú ves basura yo veo hermosura” (Where You See Rubbish, I See Beauty) by Swiss-Andalusian artist Christian Guggenbühl, known as Artapones, from September to November 21.

The exhibition is open and free to the public, from Monday to Friday from 9am to 2pm and 3pm to 9pm.

Guggenbühl’s work transforms discarded materials, primarily plastic, into striking sculptures of recycled poetry that burst with colour and challenge conventional notions of art. His creations invite viewers to reconsider their relationship with nature and make a critique of society’s throwaway culture.

In the artist’s own words, “Plastic survives all catastrophes, even those invented by beauty.”

His Swiss roots have mixed with an Andalusian spirit, and so Guggenbühl’s multidisciplinary practice spans performance, video installations, and sculptures in wood and concrete. His visually poetic works repurpose rubbish into captivating art, embodying his motto, “Where You See Trash, I See Beauty.”

The artist is now a prominent figure in Spain’s art scene, recently having participated in exhibitions like Tardor Art in Formentera and has earned a finalist spot in the Parque del Estrecho Art Contest. His sculpture Mikaela the Goat adorns the streets of Tolox as part of the Artolox International Meeting and is featured in the 2024 Art Guide.

The free and curious, yet captivating exhibition, is on until November 21. Torremolinos’ Casa de Cultura is in Calle Horacio Lengo, Torremolinos.
