WHITE PLAINS, NY — Students at Stepinac High School will present a real-life story turned into a musical as their next Stepinac Theatre presentation.
“Catch Me If You Can” is a high-flying musical comedy based on the hit film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
The musical will be presented in Stepanic High School’s iconic Major Bowes Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 and Thursday and Saturday, May 2 and 4. There will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5.
“Catch Me If You Can” the musical was nominated for four Tony Awards, and the book was written by Terrence McNally with a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
The story is about Frank Abagnale Jr., who, as a teen, runs away from home to begin an adventure. He successfully posed as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer.
When Abagnale’s lies catch the attention of FBI Agent Carl Hanratty, he is pursued across the country to be brought to justice.

Calvin Lindo, Class of ’24, plays Abagnale Jr., and he said playing a real-life character is a rewarding yet challenging experience.
“I look forward to further researching my character’s background to fully immerse myself in the role,” he said in an email. “Although playing a real-life character comes with a challenge, it will be interesting to learn more about my character and gain a deeper connection with the material.”
Lindo said that what’s striking about Abagnale’s life is his transformation from a notorious teenage con artist who forged checks and assumed various identities to a consultant and lecturer advising businesses on fraud prevention.
“His ability to seamlessly switch between his past experiences and his current role as an expert in white-collar crime is both captivating and thought-provoking,” he said.
Lindo said that he looks forward to connecting with the audience during the performances and creatively telling a true story.
“Being chosen as the lead in ‘Catch Me If You Can’ is a great honor because I get to work closely with my peers in a collaborative environment,” he said.
“Together, we can bring the story to life through music, dance and acting, fostering a sense of teamwork and camaraderie,” Lindo said.
