The Maltese artist from Marsascala, Marika Borg, channels the bittersweet rhythms of life into her work. Her paintings are infused with a deep appreciation for beauty and positivity, which brighten each canvas with warmth and emotion.
Despite a demanding daily schedule, Marika’s creative drive remains unstoppable. Often painting in the quiet hours of the night – sometimes as late as two or three in the morning – she finds solace and focus in the stillness, allowing her to connect deeply with her art.
A self-taught artist, Marika has continuously evolved her techniques over the years. She actively participates in portraiture and live sessions, and is a member of a Plein Air painting group. Her plein air works are especially sought after, capturing the charm of the Maltese countryside and the quaint character of village streets.
Marika has held five solo exhibitions and contributed to numerous collective ones. Her talent has also been recognized internationally: she competed twice in the prestigious Concorso Internazionale di Poesia, Prosa e Arte Figurativa “La Finestra Eterea”, earning third place five years ago and winning first prize this year.
This international competition takes place in Cinisello Balsamo, in the province of Milano. Recent editions of the prize giving ceremony were held in the Sala degli Specchi di Villa Ghirlanda.
Marika’s painting Il Guardiano della Cattedrale, was a strong candidate for the award-winning piece – its mystique and craftsmanship certainly make it prize-worthy.
