LONG BRANCH — The opening reception for the city’s newest summer art exhibit, “Salted,” will be held the evening of Monday, July 14, at the Cultural and Arts Center on Broadway.
The exhibit is inspired by local marine life, from the tiniest plankton to the largest fish migrations, from the hands that harvest the sea to those working to protect it. The exhibit is both a celebration and a call to action and seeks to remind guests that the ocean is not just something to look at, but something we’re a part of.
“The ocean is more than a pretty view. Beneath the surface lies a complex world which is very much alive,” Arts Director Maggie Fischer said.
Salted invites guests to explore the extraordinary ecosystems and organisms that exist just offshore, revealing the intricate web of life that most people never get to see firsthand.
“This year’s exhibit builds on last summer’s look at lifesaving and surfing culture, but now we dive deeper into the unseen. Through painting, sculpture, photography and installation, local artists bring to life the dynamic marine habitats of our region,” Mayor John Pallone said.
“Salted” is a blend of professional artistry and community collaboration. One key feature is the center’s evolving shell installation, which is made up of painted seashells contributed by community members. Visitors are invited to paint a shell and add it to the growing collection, creating a collective portrait of our shared coastal connection.
