Another win for Sheffield-based RnB artist Lavelle as she reaches the number one spot in the iTunes RnB chart for the third time in a row, with her new single ‘Number 42’.

Exposed speaks to the artist about what the first six months of 2024 have been like for her, and what fans can look forward to!

We last spoke to you back in January of this year, following the release of your single ‘Honest’.  How has the start of the year been treating you?
The start of the year has been treating me very well. I’ve been very busy! I’ve been honoured to have some amazing brand collaborations and offered some amazing bookings.

The MOBOS was a highlight of the year, it was very surreal! We just did The Great Escape (Brighton), which was my first festival performance. Everything is moving very fast but I am very grateful and humble.

Since speaking with you, ‘Honest’ climbed straight to number one in the R&B charts. How did this response make you feel?
The response makes me feel euphoric, I just can’t believe it every time it’s happened. It’s happened once again with one of my current release singles ‘Number 42′ and every time, it just makes me want to scream and dance and do cartwheels and backflips because I can’t believe this is my life.

We have three festivals coming up. Brand collaborations. Lots more exciting times. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open

Following this, you have now released a new single called Number 42. Another triumph for you, as this single also reached number one in the R&B charts. How did you react to the news?
I literally couldn’t believe it, I was so shocked. It was such a hard week in the charts that week.

When ‘Number 42′ went to number one, I was literally gobsmacked. I just thank God for my supporters, my fans, my team and just think that as long as I keep my head down we should be out of the hood soon (haha).

Can you describe what the new single ‘Number 42’ is about?
‘Number 42’ is a song about a sneaky link (secret love) situation, gone wrong in the sense of forming an attachment or bond with someone you weren’t necessarily supposed to. It also pays homage to Brandy and Monica’s ‘The Boy Is Mine’.

Finally, the start of 2024 has been an amazing achievement for you. What can we expect for the rest of the year?
You can expect more music to be released this year with some big features. We have just released a house remix to ‘Honest’, which is titled ‘Lie 2 You’, alongside Bailey P.
