Takashi Murakami returns to Galerie Perrotin from October 15 to November 23, 2024. Five years after taking over this famous Parisian gallery, the famous Japanese contemporary artist presents a new solo show featuring some fifteen of his recent works, to be discovered free of charge at Galerie Perrotin Matignon.

Takashi Murakami (b. 1962) is well known for his smiling flowers, acid colors and manga-inspired pop universe. This time, for his new solo show in Paris, the contemporary Japanese artist presents a series of recent paintings, to be discovered exclusively within the walls of Galerie Perrotin Matignon, located in the capital’s chic 8th arrondissement.

On view from October 15 to November 23, 2024, this small art installation features some of Takashi Murakami‘s favorite characters, straight from his imagination. These include Mr. DOB, the iconic character created by the artist in 1996, as well as his famous panda and Miss Good Things and Mr. Bad Things, the two kawaii versions of good and evil. There’s also the quirky octopus that the artist sometimes wears on his head in the form of a hat.

We can also admire the Yume Lion, the essential lion cub conceived by the Japanese artist, presented here on a painting barely fifty centimetres high. A self-portrait of Takashi Murakami with POM, his dog who died in 2020, is also unveiled.

Galerie Perrotin Matignon is also exhibiting two of the artist’s circular paintings featuring dozens of colorful flowers, as well as“ZuZaZaZaZaZa Rainbow“, a work revealing seven vertical bands of color aligned with the same trace of white liquid each time.

These works and icons, embodying different moments in Takashi Murakami’s career, are painted on separate wooden panels, shaped to follow the contours of the figures (” shaped canvas “).

In all, only 15 works – displayed in two different rooms – are on view. So don’t expect a major exhibition. The visit is quick, but the pleasure of admiring these creations by Takashi Murakami remains intact. So, if you’re passing through the neighborhood and are moved by the creations of this essential contemporary Japanese artist, don’t hesitate to push open the doors of Galerie Perrotin Matignon from October 15 to November 23, 2024, to admire his most recent paintings, as colorful as ever!
