MUSKEGON, MICH. — Makers, crafters, and artist took over downtown Muskegon for the annual Lakeshore Art Festival on June 29.
“The festival is a great way to connect with readers,” said author Jean Davis, who has been attending the event for seven years.
Davis’ chicken Laya was in tow to greet visitors to their booth. Laya sat calmly on Davis’ lap while people checked out the selection of books on display.
In addition to authors, the festival featured a range of other artists. Booths highlighted work from jewelers, photographers, and painters.
The two stages gave space for singers, musicians, and other live performers to showcase their talents.
Most were Michigan based makers but a few traveled from states like California and Florida.
Along with the the various art exhibits, the festival featured a “Chalk the Walk” competition. Artist 10 and up decorated a square of pavement using chalk.
Bethany Daniels participated in the competition. She got into chalk art by spending time with her daughter.
“I wanted to take my art from the driveway and out into the public,” Daniels said.
The festival also featured a “children’s lane” with interactive activities, face painting, and balloon animals.
The Lakeshore Art Festival concludes on Sunday and will welcome visitors from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. More information about the day’s events can be found on the festival’s website.
Over 30,000 people attended the two day event each year.
