A Pokemon fan artist drew three new designs for the Grass-type critter called Seedot, and each one added different looks based on Seedot’s available abilities. The Pokemon fan artist shared their handiwork with other trainers and clarified that their work on Seedot was based on a growing trend with Pokemon fans on social media.

Known as the Acorn Pokemon, Seedot first appeared in Pokemon Ruby as a version-exclusive creature that players found in the early fields of the Hoenn region. Its counterpart in Pokemon Sapphire was Lotad and its evolved forms, Lombre and Ludicolo. Though Seedot starts as an unassuming Pokemon, it evolves into Nuzleaf at level 14 and becomes a Grass and Dark dual-type Pokemon. When exposed to a Leaf Stone, Nuzleaf evolves into Shiftry, the Wicked Pokemon, who boasts a high attack stat and can use moves like Leaf Blade, Dark Pulse, and Extrasensory. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can catch Seedot and its evolutions in the Kitakami region, which can only be accessed after unlocking The Teal Mask DLC.

While the Seedot line has been the subject of past Pokemon fan art, one trainer gave the Acorn Pokemon a new look based on its three abilities. A Reddit user and Pokemon trainer named Matratzfratz drew three different “ability forms” for Seedot, and posted their handiwork on the r/Pokemon subreddit. In their picture, Matratzfratz listed Seedot’s standard abilities, Chlorophyll and Early Bird, and its Hidden Ability Pickpocket. In their artwork, Seedot’s Chlorophyll form turned the Pokemon’s body green and gave it a leaf atop its head. The Early Bird form was reminiscent of a newly-hatched chick, with a beak and cracked eggshell as a hat. The Pickpocket Form gave Seedot a black eye mask and a white thief’s glove.

Pokemon Fan Artist Designs Seedot Ability Form Artwork

Seedot can swap between Early Bird and Chlorophyll with an Ability Capsule in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, whereas Pickpocket requires a rare Ability Patch. In Pokemon battles, Early Bird prevents the Sleep status effect from working on Seedot, while Chlorophyll boosts its speed statistic in sunlight. As for Pickpocket, this Hidden Ability allows Seedot to steal held items from any Pokemon that hits it with an attack that makes direct contact. Following their post, Matratzfratz stated that their art was part of an ongoing social media trend that gave Pokemon new forms based on their abilities.

While some abilities in competitive Pokemon battles can turn the tide of a fight, changing their appearances based on their abilities is currently not a feature in mainline Pokemon games. Only time will tell if the series’ future entries will include it.
