Whispers of the Wilderness: Exploring Wilderness Gardens is now open at the Reddihough Galleries in Beningbrough Hall, running until April 12, 2026.
The exhibition explores the connection between nature and creativity through contemporary sculpture, historic artefacts, and interactive displays.

Laura Turner, creative producer for the National Trust, said: “This exhibition is a celebration of creativity, heritage, and the natural world.
“It’s a chance for visitors to connect with Beningbrough’s past and present through art that speaks to the soul.”
The exhibition includes large-scale willow sculptures by artist Laura Ellen Bacon, whose flowing forms bring the energy and movement of the outdoors into the gallery space.

Ms Bacon said: “It was a joy to discover Beningbrough across various seasons while designing and making the work.
“My imagination has drifted easily in the gentle landscape and within the lamplit interior views.
“Beningbrough is a place for daydreams.”

Visitors can explore a willow thicket installation in the Saloon Gallery and sculptures in the Great Hall that evoke wild grasses swaying in the breeze.
Nine historic items from the National Trust’s collection are also on display, highlighting the 18th-century fascination with wilderness gardens as places of sensory retreat.
The exhibition is timed to coincide with garden designer Andy Sturgeon’s ongoing transformation of the gardens at Beningbrough Hall.

Visitors can also take part in the Drawing Studio, a creative space designed by artist Tanya Raabe-Webber.
The sensory experience continues with fragrant willow installations, tactile displays of weaving techniques, and an audio chair featuring literature, poetry and soundscapes inspired by the theme.
Outside, guests can explore the hall’s evolving Wilderness Garden.
Beningbrough Hall is open Tuesday to Sunday throughout September.
